Tewke Launches Tap One on Kickstarter to Make Intelligent Homes Accessible to Everyone

UK smart home innovator Tewke today announced the launch of Tap One on Kickstarter, giving early supporters exclusive access to the product ahead of its wider release.

Tap One is a capacitive touch light switch that builds on the success of Tewke’s flagship switch, Tap, which commentators have described as “quite probably the smartest light switch ever made.” Designed and precision-engineered in the UK, Tap One delivers the premium capabilities of Tap to a broader audience at a significantly lower price point.

More than just a switch, Tap One acts as a control hub for intelligent living, allowing homeowners to personalise lighting, monitor their home environment and improve energy efficiency.

“From the beginning, our mission has been to make truly intelligent homes available to everyone,” said Piers Daniell, founder of Tewke. “Tap One represents the next step in that journey. It takes everything we’ve learned from our flagship Tap switch and delivers it in a form that’s significantly more affordable.”

Reinventing the light switch

For decades, advanced lighting automation has largely been confined to expensive, dealer-installed systems costing tens of thousands of pounds. These systems often require complex rewiring, specialist programmers and days of disruption.

Tap was designed to change that.

Both Tap and Tap One allow users to control up to three lighting circuits with full dimming capability, create customised lighting Scenes and manage multiple devices from a single interface. Installation takes minutes rather than days, making it suitable for both new builds and existing homes. Tewke’s patented ‘no-neutral’ technology, means that Tap One can be fitted into almost every home.

Homeowners can start with a single switch and expand room-by-room, gradually transforming their home into an intelligent environment. And since all Tap devices share a common wall dock, users are able to swap screens or upgrade hardware from Tap One to Tap as their needs evolve.

Built for the intelligent, efficient home

Beyond lighting control, like its sibling, Tap One provides insights via the Tewke mobile app designed to improve both comfort and efficiency. Utilising a range of built-in sensors, the device can monitor aspects of the home environment such as air quality and energy usage, helping households reduce unnecessary consumption, potentially cutting electricity costs by up to a third, and keeping families safe.

Tap One is also supported by over-the-air software updates, shaped by feedback from Tewke’s growing community of users, ensuring the system continues to improve over time. And for advanced users, Tap One integrates with Home Assistant, providing flexible open automation alongside Tewke’s built-in intelligent controls.

Designed for homes around the world

As part of the Kickstarter launch, Tewke announced the development of dedicated versions of Tap One for UK, US, European and Middle Eastern wiring standards, enabling global adoption of the Tap ecosystem, a key development in the company’s growth.

Kickstarter community launch

By launching Tap One globally on Kickstarter, Tewke is inviting its community to play a direct role in shaping the future of the product. Early supporters will gain access to exclusive early-bird pricing (available at less than 50% of the recommended retail price) as well as special offers across the whole Tap product range.

Backers will also have the chance to win a guided tour of founder Daniell’s famous castle in Warwickshire, featured recently on Channel 4’s Grand Designs TV programme as one of its most ambitious projects ever.

"Kickstarter allows us to build this journey together with the people who care most about innovation, sustainability and intelligent living,” Daniell added. “When you back Tewke, you’re not just buying a light switch, you’re helping build the future of intelligent homes.”
