The recent global health crisis showcased the significance of data comprehension in policymaking. Amid calls to "follow the science," the accuracy of the data used proved pivotal. It became evident that handling substantial datasets necessitates adherence to fundamental principles: transparency, integrity, and responsibility.
For years, politicians have skirted around the potential of leveraging anonymised health data from the NHS to advance medical science and empower companies to innovate in pharmaceuticals. However, concerns over data sharing, scepticism regarding politicians' intentions, and the security of personal data have hindered progress. Overcoming these challenges could pave the way for the NHS to generate substantial income, catalysing significant reinvestment in healthcare services.
At Tewke, we envision the next frontier in how and when we consume energy. With over 60% of UK households voluntarily adopting smart meters, the National Grid and energy providers have gained insights into consumption patterns. Yet, local-level, granular insights into usage and control still need to be explored. Significant energy savings can be achieved by automating the operation of appliances like washing machines, considering the flexibility in usage times. We can significantly reduce energy consumption across entire cities by harnessing data to determine optimal operation times.
Advanced power measurement devices can monitor the behaviour of devices connected to sockets. Over extended periods, data analysis can reveal when devices are active or idle and potential signs of malfunction. Electrical appliances, especially white goods, rarely fail suddenly. Instead, they exhibit gradual signs of component wear, manifesting as subtle shifts in power demand. Consistent data patterns allow the detection of anomalies, providing homeowners with valuable insights into their appliances' health.
While immensely valuable, big data must always preserve anonymity and be amalgamated with similar datasets to yield meaningful insights. At Tewke, we champion AI-enabled automation to predict interactions with one's home and foster a seamless living experience. Our approach prioritises data security, rooted in developing proprietary hardware and software.
